Hamid Mir, senior analyst, TV host and journalist did a show, allowing opinions on the topic, ‘Quaid-e-Azam wanted a secular or a religious State? He stated that in relevance to the question, speeches done on 11th and 14th August are important to know the answer. Speech delivered by the national leader did not talk about preserving rights of the minorities only; rather, he identified ill practices of the society.
The Quaid stated bribery, defamation and use of private media to promote one’s interest, as illegal. Further, he talked about practicing freedom of living. A Muslim, Hindu, irrespective of religion differences, people were allowed to practice their religions. Quaid-e-Azam said, at present time were in much better condition. England had also gone through tough time. Romans and Catholic Christians would not agree to keeping into peace with each other. He stated, there are sects at which strict regulations are implemented. But, we as a nation are in much better position. There is no stance of differences among the sects.
Hamid Mir said that now, many people are alleging Muhammad Ali Jinnah to be a secular person. But, in his time, the Congress men would oppose his thoughts. And many others want to establish his character as an extremist, said the journalist.
The host clarified, that Jinnah was a practical, liberal and simple man, who lead good life. He insisted, there is no agreed definition of secularism. Hence, calling Jinnah is not justifiable.
Jinnah’s speech delivered at State Bank of Pakistan on 1948, reflect his thoughts of establishing Islamic Banking System. Hamid Mir called upon the bankers to present the failure to comply with what the founder of the nation wanted.
Futhermore, he stated that politicians, who use Jinnah’s name to do well at politics, should refer to Jinnah’s work and speeches. When Quaid took over as governor general, he resigned from his respective political party.
Jinnah was supporter of press freedom. Often, he would hold speeches in favor of press at Legislative Assembly. As a lawyer, he had taken many press freedom supporting cases.
Slamming the less educated and unaware politicians, the senior analyst stated that the rulers need to study 25th January 1948’s speech. Jinnah had never been supporter of democratic system, rather he wanted to run the State complying to the Islamic rules and principles. Martyrs remain heroes to the nation even after death, But, the military dictators, who granted permission to the foreign bodies to weaken Pakistan can never stand out as inspirational figures, said Hamid Mir.
Pakistan did not emerge as independent State through efforts of a General. Rather, they were the politicians and lawyers, who were the freedom fighters. Hence, there shall be no space of talking about dictatorship in politics, stated Capital Show’s host.
